Icknield Quilters exhibitions are not only held to promote patchwork and quilting and share our members quilts with the visitors, we also raise money for local Charities, in 2013 our choice of charities were the North Herts Sanctuary for the Homeless in Hitchin and the Hitchin Young Carers Group. Our quilt raffle and a peg bag raffle raised a total of £1200. Cheques of £600 were presented to representatives of both charities when they gave us and overview of the work they do at one of our meetings.

The Sanctuary provides homeless people with a bed and meals. They also help find permanent homes which involves moving to unfurnished accommodation where the IQ donation will help provide ‘Starter Packs’ which include essentials - kettle, toaster, cutlery etc. The money will also help fund "Life Skills" courses.

Young Carers help with the care of a member of their family if they are suffering from conditions affecting their physical, mental or emotional health. The Young Carers Group is a club where members talk about the difficulties at home and also have fun.  The IQ donation will fund an ‘away-day’ experience .

Icknield Quilters committee and group members are already working towards the next exhibition in 2017. Group quilts for the ever popular raffle are now in progress and members are consistently producing superbly designed quilts to show at the exhibition.

You can see some of these at our groups show and tell at our monthly meetings
